Sports teams in the region at risk – Acronis

Acronis, the global leader in cyber security, have urged companies to take stringent steps in ensuring data protection from hackers. Numerous reports continue to paint a grim picture of how hackers are increasingly targeting some ill-prepared companies in the Middle East.

Acronis has stressed on the sports teams of the Middle East, who can fall prey to cyber attacks, which can go on to cripple stats and adversely affect the performance and the results of the teams.

“We have identified a serious gap in the region’s sports industry in terms of cyber protection. That is part of the reason why we are in the UAE through GITEX Technology Week to further seek partnerships with the various sports teams to offer our expertise in cyber protection,” said Islam Shaker, Channel Manager Middle East.

According to a report released during a cyber-security seminar held in South Africa in April this year, the UAE was reportedly hit by over one million phishing attacks during the first quarter of 2019 alone. Over 52,000 mobile malware attacks were also reported in the same period – registering a 20 percent increase compared to the same period in 2018.

“The statistics of how the region is being affected by cyber-attacks are shocking. These threats are on the rise mainly due to the unpreparedness and lack of investment in cyber protection by most companies or sport teams. Organizations need to urgently prioritize cyber protection through integration of anti-cyber-attack systems so as to protect their valuable data and to also ensure their operations are not disrupted,” said Shaker.

Acronis’ cyber protection solutions hit their mark by addressing the Five Vectors of Cyber Protection—safety, accessibility, privacy, authenticity, and security (SAPAS). This approach puts Acronis solution users in the unique and advantageous position of having data that is not only secure, but also easily accessible and recoverable.
